Jet Lag and Jewels: Lotta Djossou Paris

Happy 2014 everyone!!!

To kick off the New Year I thought I would share with you what I've been doing in Paris for this past month! I left Italy at the beginning of December to come to Paris to work with the lovely jewelry company Lotta Djossou Paris! I've collaborated with them various times over the past year and a half, doing a few trade shows with them in New York and Paris, working in and managing their Paris boutique, making lots and lots of jewelry in the atelier and designing a few pieces for them.

The boutique is located in the Marais (4th arrondissement), which is a historic district of Paris that hosts their main Jewish community. It's a really fun area filled with lots of small shops, artisans, bookstores and great places to eat delicious (and mostly kosher!) food. It's become a very trendy neighborhood over the past few years and going to work in that area every day is really fun! I just love the vibe and everything the area has to offer, including bagels, which for a native New Yorker is imperative! ;)

What's special about the Lotta Djossou Paris boutique is that it is also an atelier, so we spend all day making the jewelry right there in front of the shoppers. People are always fascinated to see us work and delighted when they discover that it's possible to customize any piece of jewelry that they choose in the shop!

The jewelry is mostly silver plate, with the exception of a few sterling pieces and also some gold plate, but what really stands out about the pieces are the very unique designs. The designer of the brand is Clément Djossou and he draws inspiration mostly from the feminine forms of nature and the elongated shapes of Art Nouveau. They are statement pieces, but totally wearable and definitely conversation starters!

I will be posting a lot more information about my experiences in the boutique and the Lotta Djossou jewelry, including pieces that I have made and designed, but for now I will leave you with pictures of the shop and of some of my favorite pieces! Take a look and let me know what you think!

Buon 2014 a tutti!!!

Per dare inizio all'Anno Nuovo ho pensato di condividere con voi quello che ho fatto qui a Parigi in questo ultimo mese! Sono partita dall'Italia all'inizio di Dicembre per venire a lavorare a Parigi con la casa di gioielli Lotta Djossou Paris! Ho già collaborato con loro diverse volte nell'ultimo anno e mezzo: ho fatto fiere con loro a New York e Parigi, ho lavorato nella loro boutique a Parigi, ho fatto tantissimi gioielli nella loro atelier e ho lavorato anche come designer per qualche pezzo.

La boutique si trova nel Marais (nel quarto arrondissement), il quale è un distretto storico che contiene la comunità ebraica più grande di Parigi. É una zona veramente divertente, piena di tanti piccoli negozi, artigiani, librerie e molti posticini dove si può mangiare bene (e kosher!). Negli ultimi anni il Marais è diventato molto trendy e andare a lavorare lì ogni giorno è veramente un piacere per me! Mi piace proprio l'atmosfera e tutto quello che questa zona ha da offrire, tra cui anche i bagel, che per una Newyorchese nativa è fondamentale! ;)

Quello che rende la boutique Lotta Djossou Paris particolarmente interessante è il fatto che è anche un atelier. Così passiamo tutta la giornata a fare i pezzi davanti agli occhi di chi entra nella boutique per vedere i gioielli. Le persone sono sempre affascinate quando ci vedono lavorare e lietissime quando vengono a sapere della possibilità di personalizzare qualsiasi pezzo che scelgono nel negozio!

I gioielli sono più che altro placcati in argento, con l'eccezione di qualche pezzo in puro argento ed altri placcati in oro, ma quello che colpisce è il design particolare di ogni gioiello. Il designer del brand è Clément Djossou, il quale prende ispirazione più che altro dalle forme femminili della natura e quelle allungate dell'Art Nouveau. Sono dei veri statement pieces, ma allo stesso tempo molto facilmente indossabili.

A breve scriverò molto di più sulle mie esperienze nella boutique e i gioielli Lotta Djossou Paris, tra cui anche quelli che ho disegnato e realizzato io, ma per il momento vi lascio con qualche foto della boutique e di alcuni dei miei pezzi preferiti! Fatemi sapere cosa ne pensate!

Inutile dire che per Natale quest'anno la maggior parte dei regali che ho fatto sono di Lotta Djossou Paris!
